Project Goals

  1. To increase awareness of the hazards of tobacco use among school children;
  2. To help school children better understand the messages in tobacco advertisements, so that they are better prepared to resist them;
  3. To develop and implement a counteradvertising contest in selected schools in Southeast Michigan, in different geographic locales and among different sociodemographic populations;
  4. To increase community awareness of, and attention to, the tobacco problem through community dissemination of information about the contest, and placement of award-winning artwork in public media and venues;
  5. To collect data evaluating the success of the project; and
  6. To improve and expand the project, if successful, within Southeast Michigan.
